Qualification and Required Documents Qualification To be an English teacher in Korea you must meet the following qualifications below. 1. English must be your native language and you must be fluent in conversational English. 2. A university bachelors degree with any major, NO TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Certificate required but preferred. Note : 2 or 3 year college graduates (diplomas) do not qualify for the E-2 work visa, even though they may have a TESOL certificate. An English, education degree and TESOL certificate are considered as an advantage. Although the above majors are considered as an advantage, the major is not too much of a concern, as long as you have graduated from an accredited university. Applicants with any major and being native English speakers are qualified to be English teachers in South Korea. Also no formal teaching experiences are required.
