As of July 14, 2007, the Korean consulate will no longer provide notarizations or

On this date, Korean courts will officially begin to recognize what is known as an Apostille, which refers to the legalization of documents under internationally recognized standards (namely, the terms of the 1961 Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents). Thus,

E-2 Visa Interview Appointment Process

E-2 visa applicants must have an interview at the consulate by a consul, which will be scheduled by the Korean Consulate. This interview will be conducted either in the office or via web cam for applicants out of the Korean consulate.

1. Without submitting all visa documents, a visa interview appointment is not available.
2. Due to the increasing number of visa applicants, it is recommended that E-2 visa applicants apply for their visa at least five business days earlier than the expected date of visa interview. In order to schedule the soonest available interview date, submit the E-2 visa application as soon as the visa issuance number is issued.
3. When applying by mail, the applicants can contact the consulate 3~4 days after mailing documents. For inquiry, be ready to provide your full name and date of birth. Only after verifying, will the available interview times and interview exemption information be released to the visa applicant.
4. Be aware that the interview for an E-2 visa is extremely important. Please dress appropriately and expect to be asked detailed questions about your expected job and your thoughts regarding various topics. The interview is not a formality and will determine whether or an E-2 visa is granted.
5. For the visa interview, provide a photo ID such as a Driver¡¯s License.
6. Only after a successful interview, will the E-2 visa be issued and ready for pick up on the same day.
7. Passports can be picked up for those who do not pass the interview on the interview date.

E-2 Visa Interview Procedure

New Policy (Effective Dec 15, 2007)

1. All E-2 visa applicants must have an interview at the Consulate General in your jurisdiction.
2. First- time E-2 visa applicants (non Canadians) must apply for their visas in their own countries.
3. All applicants, except those who worked previously with an E-1(Professor), E-2(Teaching Foreign Languages), E-3(Research) visa in Korea without any illegal activities, must be a Canadian citizen.

Starting February 11, 2008, the Korean consulate will accept a Self-Introductory CD to lessen the burden of face-to-face interviews for those who live outside the jurisdiction. Therefore, the outside residents can either have a face to face interview at the Korean consulate in your jurisdiction or submit a Self-Introductory CD when applying for an E-2 Visa. After reviewing the visa applicant's CD, a consul may contact the applicant for further questions if necessary. Please note that the Korean consulate will not return this CD to the visa applicant.

Please follow directions regarding what to present on the CD and how to burn a CD.
